Meet the governors: KGH's public governor for Corby urges people to get involved and become a member

KGH's public governor for Corby is urging people to get involved, learn about the hospital and have their views heard by becoming a member.

The governors at KGH have teamed up with the Northants Telegraph to give our readers an insight into their role and the work they do.

David Harland, public governor for Corby, has written the fifth in a series of pieces about the governors which we will be bringing to you in the coming weeks.

He is encouraging people to sign up as members, and said: "Do you want to know more about your local hospital?

"Would you like to have your views heard?

"As one of the community governors for Corby, I encourage you to go to the member web page by clicking here and sign up as a member.

"As a member, you can choose how involved you want to be.

"You can receive information and vote for your local community governor, or you may decide to be more active and participate in focus groups, volunteering or stand for election as a community governor.

"As an NHS foundation trust, Kettering General Hospital has a council of governors.

"There are 13 elected community governors, representing four constituencies - Kettering, Corby, Wellingborough and East Northants.

"And one governor representing the rest of the UK.

"In addition, there are three elected staff governors and eight appointed governors.

"The governors' role is to hold non-executive directors to account for the performance of the board, and engage with and reflect the views of the constituencies.

"While Covid has dominated the news, work in the background has continued at the hospital.

"Not only to support the Covid effort but build the future of health care in the area.

"With plans for a new Urgent Care Hub progressing, digital systems implementations continuing across many areas in the hospital.

"The hospital is a crucial health provider benefiting our families, friends and communities.

"Add your voice and become a member."
