League will always be Poppies' priority, says Law

Marcus Law insists sustaining a promotion challenge in the Evo-Stik League South Premier Division is Kettering Town's number one priority this season.

The Poppies have reached the fourth qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup for the third year in a row after they booked their spot with a 4-0 victory over Hednesford Town at Latimer Park last weekend thanks to a hat-trick of penalties from Brett Solkhon and a goal from substitute Andrea Borg.They will now battle it out with Vanarama National League side Aldershot Town for a place in the first round proper when they head to Hampshire next weekend.But Law doesn’t want anyone looking too far ahead and, with cup competitions now firmly in the equation, he wants his team’s full focus on their only two league matches this month.The Poppies remain on top of the table but face tricky tests at St Neots Town tomorrow (Saturday) before heading to one of Law’s former clubs Tamworth on Tuesday night.“We have got two league games this month and they are massive,” the Poppies manager said.“The league will always be our priority over cup matches because all of us here at the club want to progress out of this division.“It is our sole focus and we have two tough away matches in a short space of time so we have to make sure we are right at it.”St Neots will also be coming into Saturday’s game on the crest of a wave after they came from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 with league rivals Coalville Town in Tuesday’s FA Cup third qualifying round replay before holding their nerve to win the resulting penalty shoot-out.Their Rowley Park home is one of the more impressive stadiums in the division.And Law added: “St Neots is a lovely little ground and it is always a good surface.“In fact, our next three games will all be on good surfaces and in good surroundings.“Hopefully it will suit the way we want to try to play but it’s up to us to go and produce it.”Law confirmed he is expecting a new signing, believed to be a loan deal with a Football League club, to be added to his squad ahead of this weekend’s clash.And he is hoping to have a fully fit squad to choose from, aside from long-term injury victims Aaron O’Connor (knee), James Brighton (knee) and Gary Stohrer (broken foot).
