Family and friends thanked for their support for Raunds man battling a brain tumour

Two cheques for £2,351 each were presented to Michael Elliott and Macmillan Cancer Support at The Snooks in Raunds this week.

Rushden darts player James Richardson, who caused one of the biggest upsets in the history of the PDC World Championship by beating Raymond van Barneveld 3–0 in the first round of the 2012 championship, was among those who helped with the fundraising.

He took part in the darts competition which was arranged in support of Michael, who has a stage four brain tumour.

Michael’s wife Sharon said: “As he won’t go back to work, the money is for him to do things for himself.”

Sharon said Michael was overwhelmed by the support for the darts competition and the raffle held on the same night.

As well as money raised by the darts competition and raffle, Sharon said her daughters have been raising money with several other events, including a name the teddy competition.

Sharon said Michael loves the darts and following the presentation on Monday, she added: “A massive thank you for everyone’s support, it’s been overwhelming.

“Thank you to everyone who gave their time to come and help us, such as selling raffle tickets and donating prizes, it’s just amazing.”

Jamie Elliott also thanked everyone for their support with the fundraising and said: “Thanks to everyone that attended the event and made it a great day.”
He added that he is planning to organise another darts tournament in the summer to raise more money for Macmillan and Prostate Cancer UK.

Sally Fordyce from the Wellingborough and Rushden group of Macmillan Cancer Support said: “On behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support, I would like to thank Michael and Sharon and everyone who has been involved in the fundraising.

“We are hugely grateful for the fantastic sum that has been raised and all of this will be used to fund cancer care in the county.”
