A team of volunteers helped collect more than 35 bags of rubbish from Wellingborough's Hemmingwell estate.

The weather might not have been great, but it didn't deter 17 'litter heroes' who carried out the community litter pick on Saturday (October 31).

In just two hours, their haul of rubbish included numerous bags of rubbish as well as four car wheels, a jukebox, portable stereo, scooter and a parasol.

Jonathan Hornett from Wellingborough Eco Group, which organised the litter pick, said: "Thank you to our 17 litter heroes who did an amazing tidy up, with very soggy conditions, in Hemmingwell’s parks and pathways."

The group had support from Norse, who supplied the litter pickers and collected the rubbish afterwards.

Wellingborough Eco Group, which has nearly 400 members on its Facebook group, holds a two-hour tidy up every month.

They are hoping to be out again on Saturday, December 5 from 10am to midday with the location still to be decided from the suggestions they had from the litter pickers.
