During lockdown, the station kept broadcasting to the town offering a friendly voice to listeners shielding at home.

Mr Barber said: "It's very nice to be thought of. We tried to carry on during the four months. We kept going with a few staff and presenters doing their shows from home.

"I came in to the studio to keep things going. It was tough without advertisers but now we can let people know which businesses are back.

"There's a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel now and we are getting back to normal."

A spokesman for Corby and District Lions Club said: "The club has had a long-term relationship with Corby Radio. Over the years we have supported each other to serve the community.

"Annually, Corby Lions organise the family funday at East Carlton Park where the Corby Radio Bus is a key feature and broadcasts live from the event, except for this year due to the pandemic.

"Corby Lions in the past have supported the radio station academy. In recognition of their contribution, Corby Lions members with president Ken Shaw presented a certificate of appreciation to Des Barber who heads Corby Radio."

Mr Barber added: "We are thankful. They support us in what we are doing. It was sometimes lonely during lockdown. It's nice that people are appreciative that we kept going."
