Seven members of the Rotary Club of Rushden returned to the classroom last week as they volunteered their time to conduct mock interviews with Year 10 students at The Ferrers School.

The purpose of the three‑day initiative was not to assess students for employment, but to provide them with a valuable opportunity to experience a one‑to‑one interview in a relaxed and supportive environment. Rotarians aimed to put pupils at ease, encouraging them to talk about their favourite school subjects, the areas they find more challenging, and their hobbies and interests outside the classroom.

Assistant Principal Emilia Bakewell‑Voss praised the Rotary team for their commitment and professionalism throughout the event.

She said: “Thank you so much for your feedback and for all the time and effort the Rotarian team dedicated to ensuring the interviews could take place smoothly. We really appreciate the flexibility and commitment shown throughout the process, and we feel it was a genuinely worthwhile experience for the young people involved.

"Over the course of the three days, approximately 135 interviews took place. We would like to extend our thanks to everyone involved for their sensitivity, professionalism, and for the welcoming atmosphere they created, which helped our students feel relaxed and confident. The positive approach taken by your team made a real difference and was commented on by both students and staff.”

Rotary volunteers were equally impressed with the students, noting their positive attitudes, confidence, and enthusiasm when discussing their future ambitions. The team agreed that the Year 10 cohort were a credit to the school and its staff.

The Rotary Club of Rushden continues to support local young people through projects aimed at developing life skills, raising aspirations, and strengthening community connections.
