Argos is giving no clue about when it could reopen its Wellingborough store which has remained shuttered since March.

Staff have either been furloughed or redeployed at Sainsbury's supermarkets.

The catalogue store at one end of Swansgate Shopping Centre closed in March following Boris Johnson's announcement of a national lockdown.

Argos has reopened many of its standalone stores since retail was given the green light to start trading again in June.

But the Wellingborough shop is still closed with signs directing customers to stores at Rushden and Kettering or to use its click and collect service.

Stores in Northampton and Corby have also reopened.

A spokesman for Sainsburys, which bought Argos in 2016, said, “As we continue to learn how our customers want to shop with us we are progressing the phased reopening of Argos standalone stores, while keeping safety our highest priority.
