Wellingborough's Swansgate Shopping Centre is set to lose another shop next month.

Clarks, the well-known British brand which sells men's, women's and children's shoes, has confirmed it will be closing its branch in the shopping centre in February.

A spokesman for Clarks told the Northants Telegraph: “At Clarks, we regularly review our store portfolio to ensure each of our stores meets our customers’ needs as well as our business requirements.

"We can confirm that after careful consideration, our Wellingborough store will be closing at the start of February.

"We have a strong duty of care to our employees and will ensure they are fully supported as they now go through a period of consultation.”

Confirmation of the loss of Clarks comes just a month after Game closed its store at the centre.

It also follows news in November that Argos wouldn't be re-opening their store there.

While the shopping centre boasts more than 40 shops and several outlets selling food, it has seen other big names leave in recent years including Tesco, Dorothy Perkins and HMV.

Due to the current coronavirus restrictions, non essential stores at the Swansgate Shopping Centre are temporarily closed.

But essential stores and food outlets offering takeaway services include Boots, Holland and Barrett, Home Bargains, Greggs, Iceland, Poundland and Wilko.
