‘This is fostering’
To mark Foster Care Fortnight 2026, running from 13th – 26th May, Northamptonshire Children’s Trust (NCT) is shining a spotlight on what fostering really means through the voices of local foster carers, under this year’s theme, ‘This Is Fostering’.

Throughout the fortnight, NCT will be sharing real-life stories from foster carers across the county. These will be focusing on what fostering means to them, sharing about the stability and care during difficult times, to celebrating personal achievements and building lasting relationships. The campaign aims to deepen understanding of fostering within the wider community and encourage more people to consider becoming foster carers.
Colin Foster, Chief Executive of Northamptonshire Children’s Trust said “Foster carers do so much to support and care for our children and young people. Through Foster Care Fortnight, we want to celebrate their commitment, share their stories, and encourage our local community to support them in meaningful ways.”

How can businesses support foster carers?
As part of this year’s Foster Care Fortnight, NCT is also launching its Fostering Friendly Pledge, a new initiative inviting local businesses to show their support for foster carers.
By signing the pledge, businesses commit to offering benefits such as discounts, wellbeing support, or services to our foster carers, helping to recognise their vital role within the community.
A launch networking event for the Fostering Friendly Pledge will take place on 10th June, bringing together local businesses, partners and foster carers to celebrate collaboration and support. Businesses interested in becoming fostering friendly are encouraged to attend and learn how they can get involved.
How can someone become a foster carer?
People who are interested in fostering will also have the opportunity to learn more at a Fostering Information Evening on 20th May at The Old Savoy Theatre, Northampton. The event will provide information about the fostering process, the support available and the different types of fostering with staff and experienced carers on hand to answer questions.
Emma, foster carer, said “Fostering means being there when it matters most. It’s challenging, but it’s also incredibly rewarding.”
