At 37, the former senior payroll manager is preparing to launch Quill & Quiver this Saturday (23rd May 2026), a dream that took shape during maternity leave when she realised she wanted something more than office life. As her eldest grew more independent, Carrie found herself wanting her own independence back too.

“I wanted something that was mine — not just being ‘mum’,” she said.

Looking for people to talk books with, she started the Corby Romantasy Book Club. What began as casual chats soon grew into events, activities and, eventually, the idea for a permanent community space.

“That’s really how Quill & Quiver started,” she explained. “I realised it was what I wanted to do instead of going back to office work. Isn’t running a bookshop every book lover’s dream?”

The new shop will offer more than books. Visitors can enjoy ethically sourced Arabica coffee, organic teas, and a tempting selection of cakes — including vegan and gluten‑free options.

Quill & Quiver will also host a growing range of book clubs, including Romantasy, Romance, Horror, Crime & Thriller, a Men’s Only group, and a Midweek club. Also planning to bring unique, creative and community‑focused events to Corby.

Now, the Corby‑born business owner hopes the community will get behind the new independent shop found right on their doorstep.
