Self-taught Northamptonshire artist enters Johnny Depp-backed international art competition

I’m a self-taught artist based in Northamptonshire and have recently entered The People’s Artist competition, presented by Johnny Depp in support of The Art of Elysium, a nonprofit organisation that uses creativity and the arts to support people facing illness, emotional hardship, hospitalisation, displacement, and crisis.

As someone with AUDHD, art has become an important outlet for helping me cope with isolation, anxiety, and social struggles. Creating artwork gives me a way to focus, express myself, and connect with the world in a positive and meaningful way.

The competition brings together artists from around the world while helping raise awareness and support for The Art of Elysium’s work with medically vulnerable children, adults, and underserved communities in Los Angeles.

As a local independent artist taking part in an international charity-focused arts competition, I think it is important to promote the role creativity can play in mental wellbeing and neurodivergence.

I have got through to the top 10 in my group, I would so love to win the competition.
