For many young people, Results Day is a moment of celebration. But for others, it can bring disappointment, uncertainty, or questions about what comes next.

Whether exam results weren't what they hoped for, or they didn't sit exams at all, some young people may feel that their options are limited. Northants Adult Learning is reminding local residents that there are alternative pathways available and that success looks different for everyone.

Based in Kettering, the organisation's 16-19 Study Programme is designed to support young people who need a fresh start, additional support, or more time to build their confidence before progressing into employment, apprenticeships, or further education.

The programme combines work towards core qualifications, including English and maths, with employability skills, work experience placements, and opportunities to meet local employers. Learners also benefit from small class sizes, with a maximum of 18 students per group, allowing for a more personalised approach to learning.

Staff say the programme is particularly beneficial for young people who may have struggled in larger educational settings or who are unsure about their future direction.

One former learner described their experience of the programme: "It's a place that's not school, not quite college, it's the gap in between. Less stressful, more support, a friendly environment. They help you get maths, English and employability, you do work experience and build your confidence to meet new people and go to new environments. You begin not sure what you want to do, you leave ready to go out in the world, like work or college."

The programme aims to provide not only qualifications but also the confidence and practical skills that employers and training providers value. Through regular work experience and employer engagement activities, learners gain valuable insight into the workplace while developing communication, teamwork and professional skills.

Northants Adult Learning hopes the message will resonate with young people who may be feeling uncertain after the recent exam period.

A spokesperson said: "Results Day is just one moment in a person's journey. We want young people to know that there are still opportunities available and that there is support for those who need a different route to achieve their goals."

Young people aged 16-19 who would like to find out more about the Study Programme can contact Northants Adult Learning by emailing [email protected] with the subject line 'Referral Link' to request an application form.

For many young people across Northamptonshire, the next step may not be the one they originally planned, but Northants Adult Learning hopes to show that alternative routes can still lead to successful futures.
