Push for PMDD: One women’s mission to raise awareness
Marybeth is taking on a tough fitness challenge this April
Marybeth Douglas from Corby is taking on a tough fitness challenge this April to shine a light on Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) and support others living with the condition.

Each day, she’s completing 35 reps of a push-based exercise — including squatting a 35kg barbell — in a powerful effort to highlight a disorder that remains widely misunderstood.
Marybeth’s drive is deeply personal. She has experienced severe PMDD symptoms since the age of 12, a condition that can impact mental health, relationships and daily life, and in some cases lead to extreme depression and suicidal thoughts.

After joining Chapel Gym in Corby, she noticed a significant improvement in her mood and sense of control over her symptoms. Now, she hopes to inspire other women—regardless of fitness level—to feel empowered to use movement as a way to support their wellbeing.
“PMDD can affect every part of your life if it’s not recognised or treated properly,” she said. “I wanted to turn my experience into something positive and show that moving your body in a way you enjoy can help lighten the mental load and give you a sense of empowerment.”
Alongside raising awareness, Marybeth is fundraising for The PMDD Project UK, the UK’s only charity dedicated to supporting those affected by funding research and improving understanding of the condition.
PMDD often goes undiagnosed for years, leaving many without the support they need. Through her challenge, Marybeth hopes to spark more conversation and encourage women to seek support if they feel emotionally debilitated or have ‘dark thoughts’ around their luteal phase.
Marybeth is inviting people to get involved—by completing 35 reps, sharing it on social media, and using the hashtag #pushforpmdd.
