Northamptonshire site manager wins quality award
A site manager overseeing the construction at David Wilson Homes’ River View at Oundle development in Northamptonshire has won a top national award for the quality of the homes being built onsite.

David Wilson Homes’ site manager, Craig Gillies (34), has won a Pride in the Job Quality Award from the National House Building Council (NHBC), an award known as the ‘Oscars’ of the housebuilding industry.

In total, site managers working for David Wilson Homes’ parent company, Barratt Redrow Plc, have won 122 Pride in the Job awards this year alone – more than any other housebuilder.
This is the 22nd year in a row that Barratt Redrow has won the most Pride in the Job awards, underlining just how important building high quality sustainable homes has been to the developer over the past two decades.
Craig, who joined David Wilson Homes 13 years ago, has claimed his sixth consecutive Pride in the Job Quality Award.
He said: “I am very proud to build on my progress last year and win another Pride in the Job award. It’s a great feeling to know that everyone’s hard work has been recognised.
“My favourite part of River View at Oundle is the consistency of the trades. We use the same people day in day out and have a great working relationship, which is shown in the high-quality work they produce.”
The awards recognise the very best site managers across the country, with thousands of inspections having taken place to determine the winners. Judging is rigorous, with assessment across six key areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety.
The competition is also at the heart of raising standards in housebuilding, with the awards showcasing the role site managers play in ensuring much needed new homes are delivered on time, on safe sites, and to the highest quality standards. With site managers passing on their skills to their teams and mentoring assistant site managers, the awards help drive up quality standards across the industry.
Ben Kalus, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes South Midlands, said: “We’re so proud of Craig for achieving this prestigious Pride in the Job Quality Award. It’s amazing news for both the team at River View at Oundle and for our customers.
“These awards demonstrate our long-term commitment to looking after our customers and building high quality homes. They also showcase what it takes to be a top site manager, recognising the hard work from the entire team, including suppliers and contractors. Anyone who buys a home from a site with a Pride in the Job award winner knows their home has been built to the highest standard.”
Earlier this year Barratt Redrow also achieved a five-star rating from its customers in the HBF Customer Satisfaction Survey, which recognises both build quality and excellence in customer care. This is the 17th year in a row that Barratt Redrow customers have rated it a five-star housebuilder, underlining its long-term commitment to making its customers happy.
