Northamptonshire initiative helps animal rescues reach people who need them
Northamptonshire-based SortedPets invites animal charities, independent rescues and sanctuaries to join its directory for free.

Animal charities and independent rescues are being offered free listings on SortedPets to help people find local organisations where they can seek advice, adopt an animal or offer support.
The pet services directory is inviting organisations supporting all types of animals to take part, particularly smaller, volunteer-led rescues that may not have the time or resources to maintain their own website. Rescues do not need to be registered charities to benefit.

One organisation already benefiting is UK Reptiles & Recovery, an independent, volunteer-led reptile rescue based in Northamptonshire and run by Danny.
Within a day of its listing going live, the rescue received an enquiry from someone needing help. Danny has since reported homing several reptiles via requests for help from people who found him via his SortedPets directory listing.
The first people who contacted him through SortedPets weren’t social media users, so used Google to search for help. Highlighting how organisations that rely on social accounts can miss people who need their support.
About UK Reptiles & Recovery

UK Reptiles & Recovery helps rehabilitate and responsibly rehome snakes, lizards, geckos, tortoises and other exotic animals. Working alongside the Central Reptile Rehome Network, it also provides care advice and a judgement-free surrender service for owners who can no longer look after their pets.
Danny uses social media to share the rescue’s work but has not had the time or money to build a separate website. His SortedPets listing provides another way for people to find the rescue and understand the help available.
How to Create your own directory listing
Gemma Russo, part of the team behind SortedPets, said: “People running animal rescues already have a huge amount to do. Caring for the animals comes first, and there isn’t always the time or money left for a website.

“We offer free listings to animal charities and independent rescues so that cost isn’t another barrier. Hearing that people had found Danny through the directory and contacted him for help was exactly the kind of result we hoped for.”
Danny, who runs UK Reptiles & Recovery, said: “I haven’t had the time or money to build a website, so social media has been my main way of sharing what we do. The first people who contacted us through SortedPets didn’t use social media.
“The listing has given people another way to find us, and we’ve already had rescue enquiries through it.”
SortedPets helps people find pet services and animal support by location and category. Listings are personally checked, and the directory does not accept businesses selling or breeding animals.
The team is now keen to hear from more animal charities, independent rescues and sanctuaries across Northamptonshire and beyond. Organisations do not need their own website to have a listing.
Gemma added: “We’d like to hear from organisations helping any kind of animal, whether they’re an established charity or a small independent rescue. There are people doing valuable work that others simply don’t know are nearby. We want to help make those connections.”
