Moulton College students set to launch their Northamptonshire Scone at Delapré Food Festival
The winning team of a recent culinary competition between local colleges throughout Northamptonshire will soon be launching their winning product, the Northamptonshire Scone, at Delapré Food Festival this June. Visitors to this year’s festival will be among the first to try this original product, a unique apple cider scone, served with whipped honey and cinnamon butter.

The Northamptonshire Scone is the result of months of thoughtful product designing and creative culinary skill on behalf of the students, offering a twist on the traditional British classic, designed to collaborate with Northamptonshire’s rich and diverse food scene with a focus on local produce.
“We’re using the Northamptonshire link through our ingredients,” said Chloe. “For example, we’re using Whitworth’s for the flour, apples from Earls Barton, and Saxby’s Cider.”

The students say the product was developed to feel both comforting and surprising, familiar enough to appeal to traditional scone lovers, while introducing unique flavours derived from the locality of the ingredients used.
Erin, another student on the team, explained: “I’m really excited for everyone to try our scone. I think it’s different from tradition, but familiar enough that people will be tempted to try it.” She added: “Pairing it with the whipped honey and cinnamon butter adds a really nice element and enhances the apple flavours within the scone.”
Following their success in the competition, the students will launch and sell their winning product at Delapré Food Festival on the 6th and 7th June, giving attendees the opportunity to support emerging local talent while sampling a brand-new Northamptonshire-inspired creation.
Michael, part of the winning team, said: “We’re really looking forward to going to Delapré Food Festival. We’ve worked really hard on this product and put a lot of time and effort into it. I think that people are really going to enjoy it!”
After the festival, the product will then go on to be served at The Orangery café at Delapré Abbey for a further six months, extending this opportunity beyond the festival weekend.
Visitors to the festival will be able to find the students’ stall amongst a selection of local artisan traders on the battlefield at Delapré Abbey, as part of a wider range of food and drink exhibitors showcasing both local and regional produce.
In addition to a variety of vendors supplying wines, cheeses, baked goods, chocolate, preserves, and everything in-between, the festival will also be hosting dozens of chef demonstrations, tasting sessions and masterclasses, as well as live music and family activities across the Abbey grounds, including a family circus, kids cookery classes, and face painting.
Delapré Food Festival will be taking place on the 6th and 7th June 2026. For more information and to book tickets, please visit delaprefoodfestival.co.uk.
