Educational leaders from across North Northamptonshire gathered at the Maplefields’ Leadership Day to discuss inclusion, and collaborate with colleagues on solution‑focused practice. Among the highlights of the day was a powerful contribution from Lodge Park Academy’s Executive Principal, Sue Jones and Director of Diversity and Inclusion, Dr. Ute Steenkamp, who shared effective, real‑world practice to support schools in meeting the needs of their most vulnerable learners.

The event brought together professionals from a range of settings with a shared aim: to strengthen inclusive provision through open discussion, shared expertise and collective problem‑solving. The tone of the day was a collaborative one, with a welcome session setting expectations and outlining a programme built around discussion, reflection and practical solutions.

Mrs Sue Jones and Dr. Ute Steenkamp from Lodge Park Academy played a central role in the discussion around inclusive teaching and intervention. Drawing on successful practice from Lodge Park Academy, they demonstrated how a strong, values‑driven approach to diversity and inclusion can translate into measurable impact for pupils.

Sue Jones, executive principal at LPA said: “This was a really important meeting for all leaders in North Northamptonshire to ensure we are making the best possible impact for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities. At LPA we use a strong approach, driven by our values to ensure that diversity and inclusion are met consistently. We ensure our staff are well trained and that we regularly speak and listen to pupils at school. LPA is seen as a model of inclusivity and I am delighted we could share our best practice with colleagues”

The attendees had regular networking opportunities at the one day meeting, reinforcing the importance of partnership working. Many participants highlighted the exceptional value of Maplefields Outreach and Better Together Learning. Both services were praised for the invaluable support they provide to schools across North Northamptonshire.

Leaders spoke highly of their expertise, responsiveness and deep understanding of local need. Maplefields Outreach was described as a “lifeline” for schools requiring specialist guidance, while Better Together Learning was recognised for fostering sustainable collaboration between settings, ensuring no school works in isolation.

Feedback shared at the end of the day was overwhelmingly positive. Participants valued the balance of structured input and open discussion, as well as the opportunity to learn directly from peers. Above all, the event reaffirmed a shared commitment to inclusive education and the belief that, by working together, schools can better meet the needs of every child.

As one delegate reflected, “Days like this remind us that inclusion is not the responsibility of one school or one role, but a collective effort. The support we receive from Maplefields Outreach and Better Together Learning makes a real difference, and the practice shared today will have a lasting impact.”

The Maplefields Leadership Day stood as a powerful example of how shared good practice and strong local partnerships continue to strengthen education across North Northamptonshire.
