LOCAL RESIDENT TO FEATURE IN UPCOMING EPISODE OF CHANNEL 4’S THE DOG HOUSE

Channel 4’s The Dog House is back at Woodgreen Pets Charity. The dedicated team continue their mission to find homes for their abandoned dogs by matchmaking them with hopeful new owners. It’s a double arrival on site, as puppies Poppy and Fizz tentatively get to grips with kennel life. Will they have to go their separate ways to stand a chance of finding a forever home?

A local resident from Northamptonshire will appear in this week’s episode of Channel 4’s BAFTA-nominated The Dog House, capturing the moment Jan and her blind dog Teddy meet a nervous dog, in a story set to melt hearts across the UK. Their journey, filmed at Woodgreen Pets Charity in Cambridgeshire, showcases the emotional connection that can form between rescue dogs and the people who open their homes to them.

Following their appearance, the programme’s producers are now calling on others across Northamptonshire who may be thinking about adopting a dog to consider applying for the brand-new series. The team is especially keen to hear from individuals, couples and families with meaningful reasons for welcoming a rescue dog - whether for companionship, wellbeing, support for children, or simply a chance to bring joy back into daily life.

Since it launched in 2019, the RTS award-winning and BAFTA-nominated series has followed the uplifting – and often emotional – matching process between rescue dogs and people seeking a fresh start. Set inside Woodgreen’s specialist rehoming centre, The Dog House offers viewers an intimate look at first meetings, nervous introductions and the life-changing moment when a dog finds their forever home.

With the UK’s dog population now estimated at over 10 million and rescue centres experiencing mounting pressure due to the cost-of-living crisis, the need for adopters has never been more urgent. Last year alone, more than 47,000 people contacted Dogs Trust about giving up their dog, and the RSPCA reports that the number of dogs in its care has doubled since 2020. Yet despite the challenges, the positive impact of dog ownership remains clear: around 90% of owners say their dog improves their life, 86% say it makes them physically healthier, and 88% report better mental wellbeing.

In this week's episode, airing on Monday at 8pm on Channel 4, it’s a double arrival on site, as puppies Poppy and Fizz tentatively get to grips with kennel life.  Jan and Teddy, the blind schnauzer cross, arrive with hope for a new friend in their heart.
