Join football historian and podcaster Jonathan Wilson for a night of football in Oundle
On Friday 15th May, we have the powerhouse of football journalism Jonathan Wilson making his Oundle debut in conversation with Ian Clark about his new book, The Power and the Glory: A New History of the World Cup.

Jonathan joins us a few weeks before the 2026 World Cup kicks off in Canada, Mexico and the USA, bringing his journalistic eye to the myriad ways the effects of the World Cup tournament have rippled out into wider society and politics. Expect geo-political insight, new facts and footballing drama.
A prolific writer and broadcaster, Jonathan has published a novel and thirteen non-fiction books about football including a history of the World Cup, The Power and the Glory; a history of tactics, Inverting the Pyramid; a history of the Argentinian game, Angels With Dirty Faces; and a history of Hungarian football between 1916 and 56, The Names Heard Long Ago. He is a columnist for the Guardian and has been named FSA Football Writer of the Year a record four times.
Jonathan is one of the seven journalists who founded Libero podcast and is co-host of It Was What It Was: the Football History Podcast. He is also regular on the Guardian Football Weekly podcast.
