IronVicar racing for drug and alcohol recovery
On 26th July 2026, I will be trading my dog collar for goggles, my robes for a road bike, and the pews for running shoes, as I toe-the-line at the Outlaw Triathlon in Nottingham.
2.4 mile swim | 112 mile bike ride | 26.2 mile run.

It’s commonly referred to as the Ironman and it will be one of the toughest challenges I’ve ever undertaken.

I’m doing it to raise money for Chapel Recovery, part of The Chapel Gym Corby.
The Chapel Gym Corby is a community gym run by St John's Church Corby. Primarily, we serve the town by providing a first-class gym facility at affordable prices. Alongside this, we deliver initiatives that support the mental and spiritual wellbeing of people in Corby.
For example, working in partnership with North Northamptonshire Council, we provide supported accommodation for three individuals.
Recently, in response to a temporary gap in local drug and alcohol recovery provision, The Chapel Gym Corby launched Chapel Recovery. Chapel Recovery supports people in Corby who are seeking freedom from drug and alcohol addiction.
In just six weeks, we have engaged with over 30 people in recovery, supporting them in their drug and alcohol desistance journey.
We are committed to this work for the long term. To ensure we can deliver it effectively, we have taken on three new members of staff who are experienced specialists in this field. We are confident that God has called us to this work — but we now need to secure sustainable, long-term funding.
If you feel able, please consider supporting this vital work by donating:
Thank you for helping us bring hope, recovery and transformation to people in Corby.
Blessings,
Rev'd Joe Griffiths
Curate of St John's Church, Corby & The Chapel Gym, Corby
