‘Glastonbury for Dogs’ - Woof Wag Festival Makes Spectacular Debut at Wicksteed Park

The inaugural Woof Wag Festival took Kettering by storm last weekend, transforming Wicksteed Park into what one delighted visitor described as ‘pretty much Glastonbury for dogs.’ The weather held up beautifully, providing the perfect backdrop as dog families came together to celebrate a simple, shared belief: that dogs are truly central members of the family.

The festival was officially opened by Ben Jameson in one of his final acts as Mayor of Kettering. As a continual supporter of the Woof Wag Festival, and with Wicksteed Park as his chosen charity, it was the ideal combination to kick off a historic day for the local community.

Keeping four-legged visitors busy throughout the day was easy, thanks to an incredible variety of zones and activities. Dogs of all shapes and sizes tried their paws at Flyball, Agility, Scent Work, TD Rally and the much-loved arena 'Pocket Rockets' for the smaller breeds. It was also a day of remarkable achievements, with several clever canines passing their Kennel Club Good Citizen Bronze Award on site.

For some dogs, the festival was an opportunity to try something completely new, while others came out of ‘retirement’ to revisit favourite activities and sports. Visitors seeking a calmer environment also embraced the free activities within the Zensory Zone, alongside social meet-ups in the Canine Corner.

Fun for the Whole Family

The festival ensured that education and welfare went hand-in-hand with entertainment. In the Kids Zone, children learnt vital canine first aid, enjoyed storytelling alongside a Pets As Therapy dog, and tried their hand at trick training with a qualified trainer.

Adult visitors were equally treated to engaging talks from pet professionals in the Wellbeing Tent. It was a fantastic space for owners to pick up expert tips and suggestions, or simply listen to inspiring personal stories from those who spend their lives working for the welfare of dogs.

One of the day’s standout attractions was the hugely popular Puparazzi Pods. These fun photo spaces had owners laughing as they encouraged their dogs into the perfect poses, later sharing their snaps across social media. Organisers have already teased exciting new themes for 2027.

A Sell-Out Charity Dog Show

At the heart of the field, the charity dog show proved to be an overwhelming success, with every single category fully booked. Tim Oglethorpe from BBC Radio kept the atmosphere buzzing and inclusive with his lively commentary as the pooches took to the arena to meet the judges. Most importantly, 100% of the funds raised from the dog show have been donated directly to Pets As Therapy, the festival's official charity of the year.

This truly was an event for the entire dog community, with a vibrant atmosphere full of dogs and owners enjoying quality time together, all while being guided by positive, force-free pet professionals.

Organisers say the overwhelming success of the inaugural event has already sparked excitement for the future, with Woof Wag Festival set to return to Wicksteed Park on Saturday 22 May 2027.

In keeping with this year’s ethos, festival entry will remain free, ensuring as many families as possible can enjoy a fantastic day out together.
