Formula One legend Emerson Fittipaldi delights Hawthorns residents during Silverstone Grand Prix weekend
Residents at the Hawthorns Northampton enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime experience during the British Grand Prix weekend when two-time Formula One World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi and his family stayed at the retirement community while attending the racing festivities at nearby Silverstone.

The Brazilian motorsport icon was in the UK to support his son, Emerson Fittipaldi Jr, who was competing during the Formula 2 race weekend, while also fulfilling media commitments surrounding the British Grand Prix.
What began as a practical solution soon became an unforgettable experience for residents. Thanks to connections through Silverstone-based Lotus specialists Woodcote and Copse, the Fittipaldi family stayed at the Hawthorns on Weedon Road, providing residents with a unique opportunity to meet one of motorsport's greatest names.

On Sunday evening, following the Grand Prix and Formula 2 action, Emerson spent time with residents, sharing highlights from his illustrious racing career, personal photographs and videos, and reflecting on the life-changing crash that nearly ended his career. He also spoke movingly about the faith and resilience that helped him through his recovery.
The evening continued with an unexpected social occasion as Emerson and his family joined residents to watch Brazil's football match against Norway. Residents described the visit as "magical" and a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience, made even more special during the excitement surrounding the British Grand Prix weekend.
The Fittipaldi family were equally complimentary about their stay.
“Everything has been above and beyond. We are absolutely delighted with the warmth from the team and the attention to detail,” they said.
“The cleanliness and comfort have been a welcomed respite after busy days on the track.”
“Nothing has been too much trouble, and we thank everyone who has been so helpful. The Hawthorns Northampton really is a very special place.”
Sarah-Lou Haskins, General Manager at the Hawthorns Northampton, said, “It really was a moment of chance with the stay, I knew that we were hosting Emerson and his family from a Woodcote and Copse perspective, but upon hearing that the family would be based so far away, I naturally wanted to share the Hawthorns with them and offered the hospitality stay, It organically grew and the whole experience has been memorable for our residents and team members.”
The visit also held special significance for Sarah-Lou and her family, whose 10-year-old son was named after Emerson Fittipaldi, making the opportunity to welcome the racing legend particularly meaningful.
The stay highlighted the welcoming community spirit at the Hawthorns Northampton and demonstrated that remarkable experiences can happen when unexpected opportunities arise.
