Cransley Hospice column: Honour to unveil new day room

It has been an incredibly busy month at Cransley Hospice Trust. Not only are plans well under way for the busy autumn and winter season ahead, but we also had the honour of officially unveiling our brand-new Day Room at the hospice.

On 5th August, we enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of coffee, cake and conversation as we came together to celebrate a space that will bring comfort to patients, their loved ones and the hospice team for many years to come.

The transformation of the Day Room has been made possible thanks to the generosity of The Margaret Giffen Charitable Trust and Nationwide Building Society Community Grants. We are deeply grateful for their support in helping us create such a welcoming and comforting environment at the heart of our hospice.

If you are a Tesco shopper, you may also have noticed some suspicious activity recently, as we locked up five local scoundrels for our ‘Jail & Bail’ event on Friday 31st July. The day was a hilarious and uplifting reminder of what can be achieved when people come together for a good cause, and we are delighted to have raised more than £10,500!

We would like to say a huge thank you to our five ‘convicts’ for their good humour and incredible fundraising efforts.

Matt Taylor, Heritage Manager for North Northamptonshire Council, who was locked up for ‘aggravated cheerfulness’, said: “It was a privilege to take part in the Jail & Bail event and help raise vital funds for Cransley Hospice Trust. Having seen the incredible care, dignity and compassion the hospice provides to people and families during some of life’s most difficult moments, I know just how important its work is. The challenges and moments of embarrassment we faced were a small price to pay for such an amazing cause.

“Cransley Hospice can only continue making this difference with the support of the community, so I would encourage everyone to get involved however they can.”

Looking ahead, we are already ordering sequins by the bucketload for our ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again…’ event on Thursday, September 17, from 7pm.

We would love you to join us at The Old Bank, Rothwell, where Louisa Nixon from Honey Honey will once again dazzle diners with a night of showstopping entertainment, alongside a welcome drink and a delicious two-course meal.

Make sure this opportunity does not go ‘Slipping Through Your Fingers’ - be a ‘Super Trooper’ and secure your tickets now for just £50 per person.

Finally, we are so grateful to everyone in our community who supports us in so many different ways: volunteering their time, organising inspirational fundraisers, signing up to our events, supporting us through monthly giving or our lottery, or donating quality unwanted items to our retail stores. Every gesture is noticed, and together we can help ensure that patients and their families across North Northamptonshire receive the care and support they need when it matters most.
