Celebration and change at Lakelands Hospice as long-serving chairman retires
'We are incredibly grateful for everything he has given'
After more than 20 years of dedicated volunteering, Gary Tait, chairman of trustees at Lakelands Hospice, has announced his retirement. His departure marks the end of an era for the organisation, where his leadership and long-standing commitment have helped shape the hospice into a vital and trusted community resource.

Over the past two decades, Gary has played a central role in guiding Lakelands Hospice from its early beginnings through to its continued growth and development. His steadfast belief in the hospice’s mission has helped ensure that patients and their families receive compassionate, high-quality care at some of the most difficult times in their lives.
Speaking on behalf of the board of trustees, newly appointed chairman David Renshaw paid tribute to Gary’s remarkable contribution. “Gary’s dedication to Lakelands Hospice over the last two decades has been truly exceptional. His leadership, wisdom and experience have shaped not only the organisation but also the culture and spirit of the hospice. We are incredibly grateful for everything he has given.”
Gary’s retirement comes at a significant moment in the hospice’s history, as Lakelands prepares to celebrate its 25th anniversary and look ahead to an exciting new phase of development.
To mark this milestone, the hospice has planned a series of events and celebrations aimed at raising awareness of its work, generating vital funds for future services, and thanking the many supporters who have contributed over the years. The anniversary programme will begin with the “Going for Gold” appeal, which invites supporters to donate £25, either as a one-off gift or as a regular monthly contribution, helping to lay the foundations for the next 25 years of care.
Recognising that many people are facing financial pressures, the hospice emphasises that all support, in any form, is greatly appreciated. Further details about the appeal, including how to donate, can be found via the hospice’s online fundraising page.
