Borrum Renewables, the offshore wind marine coordination specialist based in Burton Latimer near Kettering, today announced the appointment of Rashid Rehman as joint Managing Director, alongside founder and Managing Director Sam McNamee. Rashid, who became a co-owner of the business earlier this year, brings deep experience of high voltage network operation, electrical safe systems of work and 24/7 alarm monitoring. After serving National Grid UK for over a decade, Rashid stepped into renewable energy construction and has since successfully completed a handful of offshore wind farms. As joint Managing Directors, Sam and Rashid will lead Borrum's growth from a specialist consultancy into a provider of complete, trained teams for both the Marine Coordination Centre (MCC) and the Offshore Control Centre (OCC).

Two control rooms, one trusted team

Every offshore wind farm depends on two control rooms working well. The Marine Coordination Centre manages vessels, people and safety at sea. The Offshore Control Centre manages the high voltage network that carries the power ashore.

Too often, developers and contractors source these teams separately, from different suppliers with different standards. Borrum's two Managing Directors change that. Sam brings hands-on marine coordination experience on offshore wind projects. Rashid brings high voltage control expertise. Together, they can staff and support both control rooms with one accountable partner.

Borrum's services now span three lines:

1.     Marine coordination – trained, retained marine coordination teams for the MCC.

2.     HV remote monitoring and supply – remote monitoring of high voltage alarms and experienced personnel for the OCC.

3.     HV control set-up – establishing high voltage control functions for new projects.

Borrum is also tackling the pain points site and construction managers raise most often: untrained coordinators, client projects used as training grounds, and high staff turnover. Every coordinator Borrum places is trained before they arrive, and Borrum invests in keeping its people on the project.

What they said

Rashid Rehman, Managing Director, Borrum Renewables: “The marine side and the high voltage side of an offshore wind farm are run from two different rooms, but they face the same challenge: finding experienced, reliable people who stay. Sam and I have each spent our careers in one of those rooms. Bringing that together means Borrum can offer clients something few companies can – a single partner who understands both control centres and can staff them properly. I'm proud to join Sam as joint Managing Director and help build Borrum into a real force in the industry.”

Sam McNamee, Founder and Managing Director, Borrum Renewables: “When I started Borrum, it was me in the Marine Coordination Centre. Site and construction managers kept telling me the same things: coordinators turn up untrained, projects get used as a training ground, and good people don't stay. Rashid saw the same gaps on the high voltage side. With Rashid alongside me as joint Managing Director, we're moving from supplying one coordinator to supplying complete teams for both the MCC and the OCC. That's the problem we set out to solve.”

What's next

Under the joint leadership of Sam and Rashid, Borrum will focus on winning tenders for MCC and OCC staffing and building its teams of marine coordinators and high voltage control personnel. Both Managing Directors will be attending offshore wind conferences in the UK, Europe and further afield, and welcome conversations with developers, contractors and operators looking for a single partner across both control rooms.
