Art exhibition inspired by nature comes to Stanwick Lakes this September
As part of the Northants and Rutland Open Studios Festival, four local artists will be exhibiting their work at Stanwick Lakes this September.

Inspired by the natural world, the exhibition features a diverse collection of wood-carved sculptures, acrylic paintings and collage, celebrating nature through a variety of artistic styles and techniques.
The exhibition provides a unique opportunity to explore nature-inspired artwork and to meet artists working in the local area.
Local artist Anna Yardley uses textures, patterns and shapes through collage to bring the energy of the sea and beauty of seascapes to her work.
While Anna’s work draws inspiration from the sea, resident wood artist and a Stanwick Lakes volunteer for more than 13 years, Colin Odum-WoodWight (“Woody”), will be exhibiting a collection of intricate wood carvings inspired by Pagan mythology and art.
Colin has volunteered at Stanwick Lakes for more than 13 years and is a familiar face among visitors, teaching wood carving techniques at the centre.
Kerry Aspinwall, marketing manager at Stanwick Lakes, said: “We are delighted to welcome such a talented group of local artists to Stanwick Lakes. Their work reflects the beauty of the natural world that inspires so many visitors to the site.”
Artist David Buchannan brings an uplifting, light-hearted approach to his exhibit. Buchannan uses alcohol inks and fine liners to create cartoon-like and strangely bizarre drawings inspired by therapy and cats. His work brings a smile and a touch of humour to the exhibition.
Rounding off the collection, Trevor Petrie uses acrylics to capture light and shadow to paint landscapes, coastal views, and wildlife, inspired by his travels on a motorbike across Southern Africa and Europe.
Together the four local artists will bring a mix of techniques and approaches to the subject of the natural world. The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to discover local artistic talent while enjoying the beautiful surroundings of Stanwick Lakes.
The visitor centre will be open daily throughout September to visitors wanting to view the exhibition. There will also be a unique opportunity to meet each artist in person to discuss their work at a special event held on Sunday, September 6 from 10am to 2pm.
Part of the Northants and Rutland Open Studios Festival, the exhibition at Stanwick Lakes is one of many locations across Northamptonshire and Rutland welcoming visitors to explore local art. With workshops and open studios to meet working artists, the festival is a chance to explore the exceptional talent of artists working across the region.
The exhibition at Stanwick Lakes will be running from Tuesday, September 1 through to Sunday, September 27. Visitors should go to the visitor centre which is open between 9.30am and 5pm daily. Please be aware that on some occasions exhibits may be unavailable to view due to room reservations. It is advisable to check by contacting Stanwick Lakes in advance.
