Rayner and Skerryvore at Castle

With almost 40 years as a bass-player and composer under her belt, Alison Rayner brings her quintet to The Castle next week.

Her latest album August was released last year and recorded live at London’s Vortex Jazz Club.

The LP has received rave reviews from across the jazz world. Rayner combines influences including bebop, folk and Afro-Cuban dance music.

She will be joined by pianist Steve Lodder, drummer Buster Birch, saxophonist Diane McLoughlin and guitarist Deirdre Cartwright.

Rayner plays the Wellingborough venue on Thursday, March 3.

Doors open at 8pm, tickets cost £12.50.

Next Friday, Scottish Celtic rockers Skerryvore headline the venue.

Last year, they released the album Decade which was a collection of live tracks and previously un-released acoustic versions of some of their back catalogue. The band’s 2010 self titled album won a string of prestigious awards including the SNMA Record of the Year.

Doors open at 8pm, tickets cost £14 in advance before fees.
