Izzy wizzy - Sooty's back in Northampton with his new show
Sooty, Sweep and Soo are heading out on a spectacular theatre tour – and they’ll be stopping off in Northampton this spring.
Their new show is produced and directed by Richard Cadell, who has been a presenter of The Sooty Show for more than 25 years. Richard will be taking a year off touring to spend time with his new baby sons as well as working on an exciting new Sooty project - but he guarantees this tour will be bigger and better than ever.
Celebrating his 75th birthday in 2023, Sooty is the world’s longest running children’s television programme, making the yellow bear an esteemed professional in the world of TV. With The Sooty Show continuing to be available on ITVx, a whole new generation of Sooty fans are forever falling in love with the magic bear.
This enduring appeal was cemented in 2021 when a Sky TV survey named Sooty and Sweep as the most popular childhood TV characters of all time.
In recent years, the gang have made many television appearances including reading the terms and conditions on Strictly Come Dancing (BBC One), a record-breaking appearance on a celebrity version of Bargain Hunt for Children in Need (BBC One), a very cheeky feature on Michael McIntyre’s Big Show (BBC One) and a pantomime special of Celebrity Pointless (BBC One). Richard, Sooty and the gang have also appeared numerous times on This Morning (ITV), BBC Breakfast (BBC1), Lorraine (ITV) and Loose Women (ITV)
Richard and Sooty have most recently finished another blockbuster pantomime run at the Bristol Hippodrome, retelling the tale of Jack and the Beanstalk.
Joining Sooty, Sweep and Soo on this year’s tour will be ‘The Incredible Showman’ Michael Jordan, singer Miss Kazia, and Mr Brown the Magical Caretaker. Expect jaw-dropping juggling, singalong favourites and amazing magic, plus the return of international act Fantasie De La Nuit with their underwater adventure. The show also stars guests Little Cousin Scampi, Butch the Bulldog and Ramsbottom the Snake.
The Stage described a previous Sooty stage show as “a real treat for the children and a wonderful dose of nostalgia for the parents”.
The Sooty Show comes to the Deco on Sunday April 19. Visit theoldsavoy.co.uk or call 01604 491005 to book.
