Dr Louise Newson returns with show 'debunking myths' about women's health

One of the UK’s most popular voices on hormones is heading to Northampton with a show promising to debunk decades of misinformation around women’s hormones and their health.

Dr Louise Newson, a physician, the founder of the Balance hormone health app and the Newson Clinic and host of her own award-winning podcast, is embarking on a UK-wide tour to educate as many people as possible around the science and history of hormones.

The show sees Dr Newson challenging received wisdom about female hormones – especially with respect to their effects on mental health – and challenges years of what she calls “medical misogyny”.

Following on from her successful 2024 theatre tour, Dr Newson’s new show, entitled Breaking the Cycle: The Power of Hormones, promises to break new ground with views on how changes in hormones can negatively affect women’s mental health. As well as exposing what she calls “the hidden story of hormone treatments,” Dr Newson will explore what she describes as “the decades of injustice where women have not been listened to, believed, or prescribed the correct hormone treatments by healthcare professionals”.

Tackling key questions around hormones, contraception and health of women, Breaking the Cycle: The Power of Hormones promises to be of interest for a range of ages, from women in their 20s trying to navigate contraception and PMS to women in their 40s and beyond trying to increase their knowledge about perimenopause, menopause, HRT and testosterone.

Dr Newson said: “Women of all ages deserve more information, better support and better healthcare.

“I’m passionate about sharing my knowledge about the hormones that impact us from our teens onwards, and I want to reach as many people as possible with the right information. I’m particularly looking forward to having honest conversations as part of the Q&A sessions during the show.

“This is more than a health talk – it is a movement and a wake-up call. Whether it’s menopause, PMDD, contraception or PCOS, I’m so excited to be able to reach as many people across the UK to help provide information that can truly change lives.”

The tour comes to the Royal & Derngate on Wednesday June 10. Visit royalandderngate.co.uk or call 01604 624811 to book.
