Anita Harris stars in Sinatra tribute on Northampton stage
‘My meeting with Sinatra was brief but powerful’
Cabaret favorite Anita Harris takes to the stage in nostalgia fest Frank: Ol' Blue Eyes is Back at The Old Savoy in Northampton this weekend.
As a teenager, Anita met Frank Sinatra at Las Vegas strip hotel and casino The Desert Inn and was mesmerised by the Oscar-winning actor's blue eyes. She was in the city appearing as a showgirl for The Vic Damone Show at the strip's first resort, El Rancho Vegas.
Anita said: "My meeting with Sinatra was brief but powerful. I will never forget it. I had just watched him on stage, and then to be able to shake his hand and look into those incredible blue eyes was amazing, a young girl's heaven."
Anita's stellar CV includes appearances in Carry On Doctor and Carry On Follow That Camel, the Morecambe and Wise Show, the Royal Variety Show, Eastenders, Casualty, Jumbleland and The Good Old Days, scoring a top 10 UK single with Just Loving You and being a subject on This is Your Life in 1982.
Frank: Ol' Blue Eyes is Back stars David Alacey as Sinatra. David has performed as Frank on Strictly Come Dancing and at a Royal Command Performance in 2004. Jazz great Buddy Greco, who shared vocals with the Basildon-born performer for One For My Baby, said: "As for David Alacey - well this guy really is Sinatra. It's frightening!” The Sinatra Estate remarked that one of his recording of New York New York is “too close for comfort”.
Frank: Ol' Blue Eyes is Back! comes to The Old Savoy on Saturday September 19, starting at 7.30pm. Visit theoldsavoy.co.uk or call 01604 491005 to book.
