Five Northampton players are on England duty, with Dylan Hartley, Courtney Lawes, Tom Wood, Lee Dickson and Luther Burrell in the squad to face Wales on Sunday.

And George North will also be involved in that game as he starts on the wing for Warren Gatland’s side at Twickenham.

That means an anxious watch for West and Co, with Saints desperate to stay injury-free for a tricky run-in.

“You’re always mindful of the fact when they come back from that we’ve got some massive games coming up towards the back end of the season,” said West.

“Fingers crossed no one gets injured and it’s the same this weekend when we play Saracens here in the LV= Cup on Saturday.

“We’ll have players playing that are going to be really important to us come the end of the season and we’ll just pray no one gets injured.”

England and Wales go into Sunday’s game locked on four points, aiming to scupper the opposition’s chances of claiming the Six Nations title.

And former Red Rose hooker West is hoping his countrymen can come through the tricky test.

“Wales are a quality side but if you look at how England have played over the past few games they’ve been really impressive,” he said.

“Our lads in particular have done well and we’re hoping they win again. We also hope George plays well for Wales, but doesn’t win the game.

“It’s one of them, fingers crossed everyone plays well and no one gets injured.”
