Courtney Lawes was at it again last weekend, setting his sights on a fly-half and drawing gasps from the crowd as he produced one of his trademark jackhammer hits.

France’s Jules Plisson became the latest in a long line of victims, with the Saints man placing another feather in his cap.

The video went viral with nearly a million people having already watched the tackle on the RBS Six Nations website.

Lawes’s reputation as a heavy hitter now precedes him and, back at Franklin’s Gardens, there are a group of players delighted they play alongside him rather than against him each week.

Here’s what his club boss and Northampton team-mates had to say about that bone-crunching tackle at Twickenham last weekend...

Jim Mallinder: “It’s pretty typical Courtney isn’t it? It was outstanding.

“He loves that kind of tackle, he goes round the corner, eyes up the first receiver - normally the fly-half, and he puts in an unbelievable tackle.

“Fair play to the lad for getting back up and continuing to play on.”

James Wilson: “That’s what Courtney does. I was watching with my partner at home and I was like ‘ooooh’, because you could see it coming.

“You know what Courtney does. He comes off a ruck and into that first defender and the guy didn’t even see him.

“I was watching him the whole way and thinking ‘this is going to be painful’ and that’s exactly what it was.

“I’m surprised he got up to be honest. He did well.”

Tom Stephenson: “I saw an advert for injury claims - ‘have you been injured at work?’ - and then a video of Courtney Lawes.

“I wouldn’t like to be on the receiving end of that.

“People always ask me whether he does it in training - thankfully the answer is no.

“But when you’re next to him on the pitch and he does it it’s nice.”
