Versatile Denman enjoying position swap at Saints

The versatile prop has switched from tighthead to loosehead in recent weeks to fill the void left by the injured Ethan Waller.

And Denman has done his reputation no harm, putting in steady performances from the bench against Harlequins and Bath

The 23-year-old, who joined Northampton from Rotherham Titans last summer, played loosehead during his formative years at Leeds.

And he said: “I haven’t played there for a couple of years but it’s good to have played both positions as a young front rower and I’m enjoying it.

“When I was at Leeds I was always a loosehead and then when I went to Rotherham I went to tighthead so that was my first year in that position last year.

“I’m still quite young at tighthead, but I’m getting better and enjoying it.

“I was quite rusty in the game against Harlequins. It’s totally different to tighthead and I haven’t played loosehead for a while but I do know how to play there so it’s okay.

“I’d actually say tighthead’s a harder position to play.”
