The Samoan full-back initially arrived as injury dispensation for Ben Foden in early February, signing on until the end of the season.

But Tuala has gone on to make a sizeable impact, scoring four tries in eight appearances so far.

And after last Saturday’s 46-0 win against London Welsh - in which Tuala scored and was named man of the match - Jim Mallinder confirmed his intention to keep the player.

A deal has now been agreed and the 25-year-old, who had been playing semi-professional rugby in New Zealand before moving to Saints, is delighted to have put pen to paper.

“I had no hesitation in signing a contract to stay at the Saints,” Tuala said.

“I’ve had a lot of love since I arrived here, both from the rest of the lads, the staff and from the supporters as well.

“It’s helped me settle here and made me feel really comfortable at Franklin’s Gardens, and I’m looking forward to staying here at the Saints.

“It’s good to have sorted this out before what will be a big few weeks for us, and I can concentrate on doing as well as I can for the team.”

Tuala has started Saints’ past two games, keeping Kiwi James Wilson out of the team.

And director of rugby Mallinder said: “Ahsee has been a good player to have around the club.

“He has worked hard on every aspect of his game, and has settled in very well with the rest of the squad.

“He has certainly earned his opportunity to stay here and we’re looking forward to seeing him progress next season.”
