The club was represented by Larae and Bobby-Thomas, both of whom demonstrated the resilience and skill that continues to place Wellingborough ABC among the leading grassroots clubs in the region.

Larae faced a particularly tough challenge in his final. With no entries in his own weight and age category, he stepped up to compete a full year above his age group against an opponent almost 12 months older — a significant difference at youth level.

Despite the disadvantage, Larae produced an excellent performance, boxing with composure and maturity beyond his years. The contest went to a 3–2 split decision, narrowly not in his favour. While the result did not go his way, the display earned praise from coaches and supporters alike, underlining his development and potential.

Bobby-Thomas, meanwhile, had secured his place in the final the previous day after progressing through the semi-finals against a Polish boxing club representative. Returning to the ring to face a strong and slightly more experienced opponent in the final, he delivered another composed performance in a closely contested bout.

Once again, the judges were split — but this time the 3–2 decision went to Bobby-Thomas, who was crowned champion after a hard-fought final.

Coaches at Wellingborough ABC praised both boxers for their attitude and commitment throughout the tournament.

“Weekends like this show the character of our young athletes,” said a club spokesperson. “It’s not just about winning medals — it’s about stepping up to challenges, learning from close contests, and representing the club with pride.”

The club also thanked its volunteer coaching team, who gave up their time across the week to support the boxers.

Wellingborough ABC continues to grow its reputation for developing young talent, combining competitive success with a strong focus on discipline, confidence and positive pathways for local young people.
