Sale’s style can suit Saints, says Burrell

Luther Burrell believes Sale’s open style of play can suit Saints when the two teams meet at Franklin’s Gardens on Saturday.

Burrell, who joined Northampton from the Sharks last summer, thrived in the open spaces in the win at London Welsh last weekend.

Saints claimed a 31-14 victory at the Kassam Stadium to enhance their chances of a top four finish and send Welsh down.

Sale profited from that result as they are now definitely safe, and can afford to throw caution to the wind at the Gardens this weekend.

And Burrell believes that will be a good thing for his side as they aim to tighten their grip further on a play-off spot.

“Last weekend’s win does put us under a little bit of pressure but we’ve got that bit of momentum now,” he said.

“It was good to come back from the loss we suffered against Leicester and get back on the horse.

“If Sale come down and want to chuck the ball about, that will suit us. We’ll hit them, force turnovers and hopefully get another four or five tries and seal another bonus-point victory.”

Burrell scored Saints’ third and fourth tries of the game at Welsh last Sunday, helping them secure a maximum haul.

And he feels that fine success will stand the team in good stead for the final flings of the campaign.

“It was very, very important,” said Burrell. “Ultimately we wanted to get the bonus-point win and we knew what we had to do.

“It was a massive turning point in our last part of the season and we can push on now.”
