Saints sign Munster utility back JJ Hanrahan

Saints have strengthened their squad for next season with the signing of Munster utlity back JJ Hanrahan.

The 22-year-old has played more than 50 times for Munster, scoring 229 points in the process, and was last season named the provence’s young player of the year.

Hanrahan’s main position has been at fly-half, but he can also play at centre as well as full-back.

He hails from County Kerry, plays his club rugby for UL Bohemians, and has represented Ireland at Under-20 level, as well as being part of the Emerging Ireland team that won the 2014 IRB Nations Cup in Romania in the summer.

Hanrahan has made seven starts and six substitute appearances for Munster this season, scoring one try and adding 50 points with the boot.

His most influential performance of the current campaign came in Munster’s Pro12 win over Cardiff Blues in November, when he landed seven penalties out of seven for personal points tally of 21.

He played the full 80 minutes at centre in Munster’s most recent match, the 24-16 defeat at Connacht on New Year’s Day.

Hanrahan was named young player of the year at the 2014 Munster Rugby Awards, and was winner of the Golden Boot Award at the 2014 RaboDirect PRO12 Awards, after kicking 137 points.
