But there have been plenty of highs as well as lows, with our man Tom Vickers having witnessed them all, and he hands out his end-of-season awards here...

5. Low point of the season
There have been some difficult days in a campaign that has seen Saints suffer defensively on several occasions, but no game was more gut-wrenching than the one at Ashton Gate in March. Saints were eviscerated as the Bears ran riot, racking up an eye-watering 62-8 success. It was Bristol's biggest Premiership win and Saints' biggest Premiership defeat on a night when nothing went right for the black, green and gold. Boss Phil Dowson was left bemused as he said: "I'm not entirely sure I can find the words, but it was a humbling experience." Photo: David Rogers

6. Moment of the season
There were some great moments, including Tom Wood's goodbye to the Gardens as a Barbarians player, Luther Burrell's try in the same game and Tom Collins' hilarious conversion attempt in the recent friendly against Leicester, but the one that wins it is Courtnall Skosan's last-gasp score at Wasps. Saints looked done and dusted in that match at the CBS Arena, having fallen 26-28 down with three minutes to go. But Alex Coles dotted down before Tommy Freeman's fine pass found Skosan for a truly memorable score. That was to be Wasps' final game before administration so the points were wiped from the league table, but the memory of that Saints score wasn't as easy to extinguish. Photo: David Rogers

7. Try of the season
Fraser Dingwall's score against Gloucester back in February summed up everything Saints want to be about. A charged down kick fell into the hands of Lukhan Salakaia-Loto and from there on, Saints became the Harlem Globetrotters, moving the ball around so quickly that it left Gloucester dazed before Dingwall dotted down. There was disbelief at the Gardens as it all happened so quickly, but replays were well worth watching more than once as Saints celebrated a truly special score. Photo: David Rogers

8. One to watch for next season
It wasn't all easy going for the laid-back Lukhan Salakaia-Loto this season, with the penalties he conceded and the red card he was hit with against La Rochelle low points for the big Australian. It meant he didn't start as many matches as he would have hoped for during the latter stages of the campaign, but the signs were there that he could be huge for Saints next season. Salakaia-Loto is equally adept at six or in the second row, he has superb handling skills and his physicality is something Saints really need. He had echoes of Samu Manoa early in his time at Saints, though he shrugged off those suggestions during a really entertaining interview he gave to this publication. He has all of the ability to become a real Saints hero, and next season, fitness permitting, supporters should see even more of what he is made of. Photo: David Rogers
