North has not played since the end of March after being knocked unconscious in the win against Wasps.

It was his third head injury in the space of four months and there were fears he would not play again this season.

However, the Wales star continues to progress while undertaking the necessary concussion protocols.

Saints are keen to take the utmost care with the 23-year-old’s return and will be wary of throwing him in against Saracens at Franklin’s Gardens.

But Mallinder says there is a chance North could play his part in the battle to reach the May 30 grand final.

“He’s got a bit (of recovery) to go, but there’s a possibility,” said the Saints director of rugby.
