Todaro takes home huge prize as McParland does the double at Saints awards do

Edoardo Todaro has been crowned supporters’ player of the season, scooping the big prize at Saints’ end-of-season awards dinner on Tuesday night.

Todaro’s season was cruelly ended in February as he suffered a serious knee injury during Italy’s preparations for the Guinness Six Nations.

But prior to that, the 19-year-old, who only penned his first professional contract last year, had scored 10 tries in just 13 appearances during this campaign.

“It is amazing because I wasn’t expecting it,” Todaro said, after picking up his award. “To get my name read out, I was definitely overwhelmed.

"I’d like to thank all the fans for voting for me. I am really, really happy to win this award.

“Looking back, I have to pinch myself. Did I really do that, was that really me?”

“When you don’t play for a while, you think can I still do that, was that really me?

"When you’re playing you’re just in the moment, you are doing the things you’ve been doing your whole life. When you lose that, you appreciate more what you’ve done in the past.

“Rehab is going well, I am on track. Hopefully I will be back for the start of next season.

"I am enjoying rehab and getting stuck into it.”

Todaro is one of several young stars of this season for Saints, with another of them being Archie McParland.

And the scrum-half also enjoyed a special evening at the awards do as he was named young player of the season and breakthrough player of the season.

“I am so proud to win these awards,” said McParland, who has scored 13 tries in 23 games to date.

"I have worked so hard. Last season was a pretty tough one for me in terms of injuries, and setbacks. I worked really hard with the physios and on my skills with the coaches.

"To be able to put my best foot forward to show the fans, the players, and myself, what level I can play at has been great.

“To be able to pick up these two awards is great and it is a real confidence booster for me.

"I want to keep on improving.

“There is still so much to play for this season. Winning the PREM is at the front of our minds and with England coming up in the summer, that is a massive goal of mine too. Hopefully I make it, but for now it’s full focus on the PREM and doing my best for Saints.”

Centre Tom Litchfield took home a huge accolade of his own as he was voted players’ player of the season by his team-mates.

And Litchfield said: “It is massive to get the recognition of your peers. For me, it feels like the biggest accolade, so I am very pleased to get this award.

"I was very surprised, it was an amazing feeling.

“So many people have had great seasons. My vote went for Chicky (Callum Chick). I think he’s had a great year, very consistent and he has had a huge impact on our team.

“I have definitely been playing my best stuff this season. I feel like I have been impacting the team and I have added things to my game, and I guess the squad have recognised that.“

Coaches’ player of the season went to lock Ed Prowse.

Josh Kemeny’s spectacular solo score against Sale Sharks in December was the try of the season, while Tommy Freeman’s incredible hat-trick at Bath during the same month was the moment of the season.

Last weekend, Freeman was named Saints Supporters Club player of the season for the second year in succession.
