The 33-year-old has a packed schedule each day, from his woodwork business that he shares with Alex Waller to home schooling his three children.

"I am busy but I'm quite enjoying it," Wood said.

"It's a good opportunity to get on top of some projects I had lined up, I was just waiting for some free time to do it. It's been ideal in that respect.

"I've taken on way too much and I'm just trying to do everything at once.

"I'm working on my trucks, I've got general maintenance and I've always got a project going on with the Land Cruiser, the big one people see down the club.

"I'm flat out on all that and then there's the woodwork, chainsawing, tree work and all that.

"Alex (Waller) is doing the more studious stuff (due to his Achilles injury) and I'm doing all the heavy lifting. He's still having plenty of input but he's just doing the stuff he can do while he's seated.

"We're just keeping our heads down and staying out of the way.

"I'm lucky I've got a garden for the kids to play in and we're home schooling our three kids so it keeps you busy all morning.

"I'm actually enjoying having some time with the kids I perhaps wouldn't normally get.

"I'm still training really hard on my own time schedule and I can be more creative with that and do stuff that is unusual in a normal rugby training week.

"For example, I'm running middle distance, five to 10 kilometres and I couldn't really fit that into a normal training week without comprimising everyone else.

"I've been putting a bit of that in, running with the kids, going out on bikes."
