Saints prop Emmanuel Iyogun gets England call ahead of Fiji showdown

Saints loosehead prop Emmanuel Iyogun could be in line for his first senior cap after he was called into the England squad for Saturday’s crucial Nations Championship clash with Fiji in Liverpool.

Iyogun has joined up with England as a replacement for the injured Beno Obano.

Bath’s Obano picked up an injury during the 45-21 defeat to South Africa in the tournament opener in Cape Town on Saturday.

Iyogun, who has four England Under-20 caps to his name, has been involved in squads before, but has yet to win a Test cap.

That may come on Saturday, as head coach Steve Borthwick looks to ensure his side bounce back from that loss to the Springboks.

Iyogun will feel at home with the squad, as he joins up with fellow Saints Alex Coles, Tommy Freeman, Alex Mitchell, Henry Pollock and Fin Smith.

The match against Fiji is being played at Everton FC’s Hill Dickinson Stadium, with a 2.10pm kick-off.

Following that encounter, England travel to Argentina to complete the first block of Nations Cup matches against Los Pumas in Santiago del Estero the following weekend.

The Nations Championship will then resume with a series of internationals in November.
