Saints assessing Todaro after young star suffers knee injury with Italy

Saints are assessing Edoardo Todaro after the young star suffered a knee injury while training with Italy.

Todaro, one of the breakthrough stars of the season, was called up ahead of the Guinness Six Nations and was at Italy’s training camp in Verona this week.

But he has now been forced to head home.

Italy’s official medical update read: “During the training camp in Verona, Edoardo Todaro suffered a knee injury. Medical tests revealed a torn right anterior cruciate ligament.

"The player will return to his club where he will continue his recovery and rehabilitation under the guidance of the Northampton medical staff, in conjunction with the men’s national team medical staff.”

It is understood Saints are still assessing the full extent of the injury and everyone at cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens will be hoping for the best for a player who has shot onto the scene this season, making his senior debut in the PREM Rugby Cup win at Saracens in September.

Todaro has scored 10 tries in 13 games for Saints – the most recent of which came in the superb Gallagher PREM success at Sale Sharks last Saturday.

The 19-year-old made his Italy debut against Chile back in November and had been hoping to add more caps during the Six Nations.
