Boyd: Scoreline is not Saints' main focus against Worcester

Chris Boyd says the scoreline won't be Saints' main focus when they face Worcester Warriors in a pre-season fixture at Franklin's Gardens on Friday afternoon (kick-off 2pm).

The game will be the one and only run-out for Boyd's side ahead of next Friday's Gallagher Premiership season opener at Sale Sharks.

It will be made up of four 30-minute periods, with both sides desperate to give as many minutes to as many players as possible.

Saints have named a starting 15 that looks likely to be close to what they will select against Sale, while there will be a bench of 22 players, including several Academy youngsters.

And Boyd said: “We’re going to play four 30s so it’s 120 minutes of rugby, and we’ve had a good dialogue with Alan Solomons at Worcester to ensure both sides get the maximum we can out of it.

“There will be times when both sides will be reasonably close to full strength, and then there will be times when we’ve both got a lot of youngsters on.

"Everyone who is fit and available will get an opportunity to play, so it’s likely to be a mixed bag.

“I don’t think we’ll be too focused on the score – it’s more about getting out there, getting the rust out of the system, and preparing for our first competitive matches next week.”
