Boyd 'massively disappointed' after Saints are beaten by Bath

Chris Boyd was left to rue Saints' lack of a ruthless streak as they slipped to a 23-22 defeat to Bath at Franklin's Gardens on Sunday afternoon.

The black, green and gold appeared to be cruising towards a fifth successive win when they roared into a 19-3 lead.

Tom James finished well on two occasions and Tommy Freeman scored his first Saints try to help the hosts into a seemingly comfortable position.

But Zach Mercer scored on the stroke of half-time and helped to finish the job for Bath with a second-half score, allowing Rhys Priestland to convert to win it.

And Boyd said: "I'm massively disappointed that we've wasted the momentum we had for the last month.

"We were 19-3 up and we weren't ruthless enough to finish that off.

"Just before half-time was crucial because 19-3 was different to 19-10.

"But even so, we talked at half-time about needing to win the next 15 or 20 minutes and we didn't.

"We created enough opportunities but didn't finish them.

"We just didn't convert well enough.

"No smiles for us here today, it's bitterly disappointing.

"We had a couple of good performances from youngsters but it's still not good enough."
