'An embarrassment of riches in that position' - Dowson reacts to big Saints win against Sale

Boss Phil Dowson admitted he has ‘an embarrassment of riches’ in the back row after Saints secured a brilliant 47-21 success against Sale Sharks on Saturday afternoon.

Josh Kemeny scored a try of the season contender and Tom Pearson and Henry Pollock also delivered eye-catching scores in the big Gallagher PREM victory.

Callum Chick then came off the bench and produced a kick ahead that belied his forward status as Saints kept their foot on the gas until the very end at a sold-out cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens.

It was a special showing from Saints and their back-row boys.

And former back-row forward Dowson said: “You saw the speed of all three of them (Kemeny, Pearson and Pollock). We saw JK's finish, TP's finish and Henry Pollock doing his usual stuff, and then Callum Chick was excellent when he came on as well.

"You've got to also bear in mind we've got Sam Graham, who is frustrated he's not playing, so we've got an embarrassment of riches in that position.”

Kemeny beat five Sale players on his way to his bonus-point effort during the first half.

And Dowson said: “It was outrageous - I got off my seat that one. It was very, very good.

"I'm so pleased for him and it was great athleticism from him.”

It was a huge team effort from Saints as they picked up another maximum points triumph at home, backing up the 50-5 demolition of Vodacom Bulls from six days earlier.

“I'm delighted,” Dowson said. “The last two weeks have been very, very good.

"Today, I thought we looked very sharp, and particularly in the first half I thought we were excellent.

"They're a very good side, they've got some very established threats and we dealt with those.

"I thought our scrum was excellent and we were very dangerous.

"We were fast and emphatic and we looked dangerous across the park in lots of different facets.”
