The British Cycling BMX Freestyle team has been training at Corby s award-winning indoor skatepark during lockdown.

Adrenaline Alley, the largest indoor skatepark in Europe, in Priors Haw Road is closed to the general public during the pandemic but because elite athletes remain exempt from current restrictions, Team GB are still progressing their skills on the ramps.

During January and February last year, Adrenaline Alley attracted over 12,000 visits – from people throughout the UK and as far afield as Australia – but this third national lockdown

has prevented these action sport lovers from enjoying Corby’s world-class facility.

Behind closed doors and with stringent coronavirus measures in place, the Olympic hopefuls are fortunate enough to continue using the skatepark as their main training centre.

Adrenaline Alley CEO Mandy Young MBE, who first founded an outdoor park at Rockingham Speedway after her son had his skateboard stolen before going on to open the indoor facility, said: "Going back into lockdown has been a real challenge for the charity. We are eager to be able to welcome back all our customers.

"In the meantime, it has been fantastic that we can still host Team GB training sessions and we are proud to continue contributing to Britain’s chances of bringing home a medal in the next Olympics.”

Team GB member Charlotte Worthington is one of seven athletes currently training at Adrenaline Alley. She said: “The opportunity to carry on training at Adrenaline Alley has kept my Olympic dream alive. Without it, I would be in a very tough position given that some Olympians have been able to continue training throughout the whole pandemic.

"I’m so grateful to Adrenaline Alley. To be able to train with my fellow athletes has given me a focus and been good for me in so many ways. Now I just want to do my country proud.”
