NCL SPECIAL: Jacks the lads as Geddington thrash rivals Stony Stratford to boost title hopes

Jack Lees and Jack Taylor both scored brilliant unbeaten centuries as Geddington thrashed morning leaders Stony Stratford by nine wickets in the Northants Cricket League Premier Division on Saturday.

The villagers produced a brilliant performance to maintain their own title challenge, and throw another spanner in the works of Stony's table-topping ambitions.

Stony will have been happy at halfway as they posted 284 for eight from their 50 overs after electing to bat.

Opener Michael Wells top scored with 87, while there were also strong contributions from James Hildreth (66) and Steve Plant (44).

With the ball, Keshav Sthanakiya claimed four for 35 from Geddington, with Gurveer Singh and Owen Shipley picking up two wickets apiece.

It looked like it may be a tricky chase when Matt Taylor was dismissed first ball to leave the home side one for one in the first over, but it was to be the only success for a stunned Stony.

Lees hit 18 fours and four sixes in his 135 not out from 100 balls, while Bates made 133 not out from 132 deliveries, hitting 16 fours and three sixes.

The pair rattled up a 285-run partnership in just 38 overs as Geddington got home with 11.3 overs to spare.

The win means Geddington are now just 14 points behind second-placed Stony, who once again swapped places at the top with Finedon who are seven points clear.

The reigning champions were easy eight-wicket winners over bottom-of-the-table Rushden & Higham Town, who look doomed to relegation.

Mark Wolstenholme roared in to take six for 59 as Rushden were bowled out for just 97 in 23.2 overs, with Tom Brett and Drew Brierley also taking two wickets each.

Liam Gough top-scored with 35 for Rushden.

Finedon then made very light work of the chase, racing to 98 for two in just 9.5 overs, with Shaynan Patel clubbing 33 not out from just 17 balls.

Peterborough Town stayed fourth and 40 points off the title pace as they eased past inconsistent Kislingbury Temperance by eight wickets.

Northants man Rob Keogh hit 52 rom 34 balls and Lewis Harris 45 for Kisl, but they were bowled out for 142 in 33.4 overs, with Josh Smith snaring five for 25.

Smith then led the way with the bat, hitting 68 not out as Posh rushed to victory at 143 for two in 25.3 overs.

Overstone Park enjoyed a big win over local rivals Old Northamptonians, with the villagers claiming a 150-run success at the Mike Clarke Oval.

Harry Gouldstone hit 82, Benjamin Sales an unbeaten 66 and Harvey Julyan 51 not out as Overstone piled up 307 for five in their 50 overs.

That proved too many for ONs, who collapsed to 157 all out in reply, with 51 from Rhys Noble their only notable contribution.

Alex Rennie led the way with the ball for Overstone, taking four for 12, while there were two wickets apiece early on for Adam Davis and Matthew Jones.

Loddington & Mawsley remain second-from-bottom after they suffered a five-wicket defeat at the hands of fifth-placed Oundle Town.

No batter got going as Loddington were bowled out for 135, and Oundle then eased to victory with five wickets and almost 25 overs to spare.

Lee Hawthorn took three for 33 for Loddington, while Oundle's top scorer was Alfie Sullivan with 37.
