For 28-year-old Wilson, it was a baptism of fire in his first-ever world final appearance.

But O’Sullivan delivered a ringing endorsement for the Kettering man as he celebrated his success.

“Kyren’s a top, top player, he’s improving all the time,” O’Sullivan said.

“There’s the story about him falling off the tour but he was always going to get back on it.

“When you have that desire and hunger and belief in your ability, yes you might have to work in a bar for a bit and do a few bits and pieces but deep down, that fire is burning brightly enough to ensure you get there in the end.

“He is a winner and he will win this tournament one day, not to put too much pressure on him.

“He is a country mile above everyone else around his age and he will be the first to admit he is always watching (John) Higgins, (Mark) Williams and the likes of those players because he wants to raise that bar as well.

“When someone is a student of their sport like that, you know they are going to have plenty of good days so his time is definitely going to come.”
