The Kettering star will be competing in the Dafabet Masters for the fourth time when the prestigious competition gets under way this weekend.

Wilson, who celebrated his 28th birthday just before Christmas, reached the final of the Masters in 2018 when he was beaten 10-7 by Mark Allen.

Currently ranked number eight in the world, Wilson is yet to win a tournament this season but he is hopeful of enjoying another good run at the Alexandra Palace.

The first round sees him taking on one of his good friends in the game in the form of Jack Lisowski next Wednesday.

The pair came through the junior ranks at the same time while they played alongside each other for England in the World Cup last year.

And Wilson said: “One of my goals for the Masters was to be in the top eight and be seeded for it this time.

“So I have achieved that and I am playing Jack who is a good friend of mine.

“Every game in that competition could be good enough to be the final of a ranking tournament because it is the best players in the world who have earned the right to be there through a two-year ranking system. No-one is there by a fluke.

“Jack and I have grown up as juniors together, we turned professional at the same time.

“And we were together as World Cup partners for England this year so it will be a good game. I am really looking forward to it.”
